Komakitsu Okabe's love toward the old history of Hinohara village.

Hinohara village was called Hinohara Valley from ancient times
untill about 400 yeasrs ago because it was located in mountains.

After that (Tokugawa Era and after), the name was changed to Hinohara village.

The life style of each district of Hinohara village,
which was based upon charcoal production and sericulture, changed to the style
which had deep connection with most prosperous eastern part of the village.

And the features had been lost in each district.

But ancient place names and legends which are concerned with
about 400-1300 years ago, remained in the village.

In each of them, we can find hints about ancient ages.
We can know about anceient ages
by investing place names and legends deeply.

So that, we should make it inportant to remain place names and legends.

  Message from Editor

Hinohara village is located in the west part of Tokyo Metropolitan
and the single village on the main island of Tokyo Metropolitan.

The population of Hinohara village was,
5,036 people in 1970,
2,555 people in 2010.

The village is becoming depopulated recently, but the village was
one of areas that had been noted in the history of Japan in its own way for a long time. We can find the proof in place names in Hinohara village.

Mr. Komakitsu Okabe who was born in Hinohara village, and have been studied about Hinohara village for many years, submitted some information from those.

Some of them are different from the legend whic has been commonly referred to as the content. Or, some have not been handed down well even in the locals.

This website is summarized with his information, and adding maps (because of that it may take longer time to load), photos, diagrams commentaries, helpful sites, noticies.

I hope this website will increase the fans of Hinohara village,
and will be in line with Mr. Komakitsu Okabe's desire contributing to the development of Hinohara village.
